As parents, we always remind our kids… wear your helmet. Over the weekend a 4 year-old Baxter boy, his parents and a USPS employee are glad he did.
A 4-year-old boy had his helmet on and most-likely saved his life after he was run over by a mail truck in Baxter on Saturday.
According to the Baxter Police Department, the boy was riding his bike when he crashed with a small neighborhood mail delivery vehicle. The front tire of the delivery vehicle ran over the boy’s head and the helmet he was wearing shattered into several pieces.
A spokesman from Baxter Police Department tells Bring Me The News that the boy and his father were in the driveway when a mail truck pulled up, and when the dad went to get mail from the driver, the boy rode his bike in front of the truck.
Police report the truck traveled approximately 15 feet and the boy exited behind the front passenger side tire, while the was bike wedged under the front of the vehicle.
The child suffered road abrasions to his chest and back, along with head contusions. The boy was in and out of the hospital in a matter of hours after the incident at around 1:30 p.m.
The helmet he was wearing was crushed to pieces, but likely saved his life.
“I can’t imagine what the injuries would’ve been otherwise,” the police spokesman said.
