I was handed a letter today that arrived at our radio station and it was sent by Heather Kelm, Executive Director of Port Group Homes in Brainerd. I thought I would pass it along to you in an effort to maybe help them fill the gap the children may be feeling as we get closer to Christmas. The letter reads (in part) as follows:
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Port Group Homes will be home to about twenty children this holiday season and we need your help to bring joy while they are away from their families and those they love.
The children range in age from 10 to 18 and enjoy simple gifts like hygiene items, socks, underwear, shoes, sweatshirts, pajamas, clothes, hats, mittens, puzzles, ethnic hair care supplies, electronic games and cards.
If you are not able to donate gifts/items, please consider contributing financially. Donated dollars are used to purchase specific wish list items and would also contribute to our special needs and recreation fund. To donate, visit Port’s website.
Every year, we have youth in our care who have never received a Christmas gift or shared a holiday meal. Many of the gifts result in emotional and personal reflections from the children. Often times, the children question, “People who don’t even know me actually care?”
We thank you for your kindness and compassion. Please help us spread the joy this holiday season with a (tax deductible) donation.
With grateful appreciation,
Heather Kelm
Executive Director
Port Group Homes
