I was handed a letter today that arrived at our radio station and it was sent by Heather Kelm, Executive Director of Port Group Homes in Brainerd. I thought I would pass it along to you in an effort to maybe help them fill the gap the children may be feeling as we get closer to Christmas. The letter reads as follows:
Monday, December 2nd, 2019
Port Group Homes will be home to about thirty children this holiday season. Normally a time when loved ones gather for celebration, many of these children will be away from their family, friends and loved ones. Although we will not be able to completely fill this gap, there is much we can do to help.
The children at Port range in age from 10 to 18 and enjoy simple gifts like hygiene items, socks, underwear, shoes, sweatshirts, pajamas, clothes, hats, mittens, puzzles and games. Financial donations purchase specific wish list items and contribute to our special needs and recreation fund. May of the gifts result in emotional and personal reflections from the children. Often times, the children question, “People who don’t even know me actually care?”
Each year, we find ourselves in awe at the amazing support and generosity the community has shown for the children in our care. It is kind and caring people like you, we have to thank. At this time of giving, we ask that you make a tax-deductible donation to the children of Port Group Homes.
With grateful appreciation,
Port Group Homes
