Ken Thomas

Ken Thomas first opened a mic in 1977, on a station playing exclusively polka music. That explains the occasional accordion music coming from his cubicle. Ken enjoys watching and playing sports, and still plays basketball, hockey, and golf, and likes to downhill ski.  He likes the outdoors, fishing, boating, camping. Ken likes music of all types, and plays drums in two bands. It’s plain to see he hasn’t grown up yet, but when he does, he hopes to get a real job. Ken can be found every morning from 6-9 with Tess Taylor, on the Morning Mess with Ken and Tess. They like to entertain, inform, and have fun and get their listeners involved with the show. Someday, they hope to get it right.

Tess Taylor

Tess Taylor is originally from Duluth.  She went to college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication.  She started her radio career in the Duluth market in 1996.  Tess moved to the Twin Cities where she worked for the Minneapolis affiliate of Radio Disney for four years, taking a 3 month hiatus to live in Mexico, just because!  She left the Cities in 2004 after getting hired at WJJY in Brainerd to work beside Ken Thomas on the Morning Mess with Ken & Tess.  She also works middays on Today’s Best County, B93.3.  She is the News Director and the Public Service Director for all 6 radio stations at Hubbard Radio Brainerd.  That is where she has been for the past 18+ years.  She lives in Breezy Point with her 10-year old daughter, Lola. Tess enjoys working (yes, even THAT early), volunteering with a number of lakes area non-profits (including the Alzheimer’s Association, and Habitat For Humanity), attending church functions, but mostly being a mom spending time “hanging out with” her daughter, reading, and binge-watching Kids Baking Championship with Lola on weekends, even though Tess dislikes baking!  She’s a proud member of the recovery community in the Brainerd area and encourages anyone who is struggling with an addiction of any type to reach out for help.  It can change your life – for the better!
