I recently discovered the Netflix series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” and my drawers will never be the same.
My sister-in-law turned me on to this show, then, after hearing more and more buzz about it – and hearing that it was “changing lives” – I HAD to check it out. So I logged in to Netflix, signed up, watched one episode, “Tidying with Toddlers,” and it was AWESOME!
I watched it and realized that there was a better way for me to encourage my 5-year old to help put things (clothes) away. Although I didn’t EXACTLY “play by the rules,” I started with one drawer in my bedroom, emptied on my bed, and went to town. I MASTERED the folding method Marie taught and although I admit it may now take a little longer to fold my clothes, I will now have LESS CLOTHES TO FOLD!
I “thanked” about 10 colored shirts for “their service,” and placed them in a TO DONATE stack. I then started on a second drawer and realized I do not need 25 white cotton tees to wear under my 10,000 hoodies. Bye bye to most of those! Although I cannot say that all the shirts I kept “sparked joy” when I picked them up for consideration, the ones I kept were for a reason. Mostly personal.
SO, just my two-cents on “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”… I am looking forward to cleaning up my family’s space. After I get through the clothing, it’ll be on to the kitchen then the dreaded home office. THAT room will be the death of me if I don’t do something about it. Stay tuned… it may be a while, but if I get to that office soon, there MAY be some “Before & After” pictures. In the mean time, CHECK OUT MY DRAWERS!!!! Well, ONE anyway. SOME things are sacred! Peace out… off to “spark some joy!”
