Free nutritious lunches will be made available once again as part of the Cuyuna Lakes Lunch Bunch organized by CRMC and area churches. (The group’s goal is to provide meals for students who normally receive free or reduced lunches through school programs.) The lunches will available on weekdays now through Fri, Sept. 2, ((except for Monday, July 4)). They will be at the following locations:

The Lakes Area Growers hosts the Brainerd Farmer’s Market every Tuesday in the parking lot of the Franklin Art Center in Brainerd from 8:00-12:30. Find Minnesota grown fruits and vegetables like asparagus, peas, green beans, broccoli, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes raspberries, grapes, apples and more! They will also have hand-crafted items and locally raised food like meat and dairy products, buffalo meat, eggs, etc.
Destination Downtown Brainerd invites the public to its Here For Good Market every Tuesday from 3:00-6:00 in downtown Brainerd on 7th Street between Front and Laurel. This is a marketplace for local growers and makers and also features live music, food, artist demos and games! Experience food, art and culture each Tuesday now through Aug. 30.
Crow Wing County Master Gardeners, along with the Northland Arboretum, will share when, where, what and how to plant a garden that produces food and flowers to share with your family and friends. The class series, which runs from 5:30-7:30 every Wednesday now through Aug. 31, includes hands-on instruction in your own garden plot at the Arb with the seeds and plants you select to grow! The cost is just $35 for a 3’x16’ garden plot, instruction materials, seeds and plants. Call the Arb to register at 218-829-8770. Space is limited. The 59th Annual Nisswa Turtle Racing Season is underway each and every Wednesday next to the Nisswa Chamber office in downtown Nisswa. The races take place in the parking lot behind the Chamber building with registration starting at 1:00 and the races starting at 2:00. The cost to race a turtle (TURTLES PROVIDED) is $5. There is no fee to watch! The races will take place every Wednesday through August 17th. Learn more at Nisswa.com.
The Longville Chamber invites the public to The Longville Turtle Races which take place every Wednesday now through Aug. 17th in downtown Longville. Registration starts at 1:00 and racing starts at 2:00. Also during registration time, kids can enjoy contests and games including turtle ring toss, fishin’ for fun, turtle roll and more! Walk with the Doc, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center’s free health program that brings doctors and individuals together to walk, will continue in Crosby throughout the upcoming months. Depending on the weather and per the group’s preferences, the walks may be held indoors or outdoors. The goal of Walk with Doc is to improve the health of participants. Walks are held every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Hallett Community Center. For more info, visit CRMC’s website.

Operation Sandwich along with Bridges of Hope, will provide Summer ’22 Lunch Kits to families in need of a meal every THURSDAY during the summer months (through Sept. 1). Lunch supplies for five days will be provided to families in need that will include bread, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars and other items, including fresh fruit at no cost. However, if you would like to pick up a lunch kit, you must put in your request EACH WEEK. Sign up online here or on the Bridges of Hope website and click on Operation Sandwich. The Northland Arboretum in Brainerd will host its Summer Camps for kids every Thursday from now through Aug. 18th from 8:00-3:00. This is a way for kids to get outdoors and experience instructor-led exploring, activities, and hiking. Kids can be dropped off at 7:45 and need to be picked up by 3:00 and kids must provide their own lunch. The cost is $25/day for Arb members… $30 for non- members. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited to 15 kids (minimum 10). Registration and payments can be made by calling the Arb at 218-829-8770. Learn more online at NorthlandArb.org.
Family Storytime will take place every Thursday at 11:00 in the Large Meeting Room at the Brainerd Public Library. All are welcome.
The Center in Brainerd is hosting Performances in the Park at 7:00 every Thursday night during the summer at Gregory Park in Brainerd. The entertainment is free and they just ask that you bring a blanket or lawn chair! In case of rain, the performances will be held at The Center on Kingwood Street in Brainerd.

The Pine River Duck Races have returned to Pine River and will run every Friday now through Aug. 19 at the Pine River Dam on Barclay Avenue. Rent a (rubber) “duck” for just $1 and be ready to cheer on your duck as it swims toward the finish line on the Pine River. Registration begins at 1:30 with the first flight at 2:00. The Northwoods Arts Council of Hackensack will host its second year of its Lakeside Concert Series from 5:00-7:00 every Friday evening now through Aug. 26th. Organizers ask that you bring a lawn chair, snacks and a beverage to enjoy during the show. Concerts are free, but donations are gratefully accepted. (In case of rain, concerts will be held at the Community Building in Hackensack).

The Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association (NMRHA) Train Club invites the public to stop by their club in Crosslake to see all the trains! The have three different scale layouts in their 8,000 square foot facility in Crosslake. There are fun things for kids and free gifts for them as well! The club is located on County Road 66 across from Zorbaz in Crosslake and is open to visitors every Saturday from 10:00-2:00 year round! A donation of $5 for those over the age of 5 is appreciated.
The Crosslake Ideal Lions presents Crosslake Music in the Park 2022 every Saturday during the summer now through Labor Day. The bands play for FREE in at the Gazebo in Crosslake Town Square starting at 6:00pm. Grab your family and friends, a lawn chair or blanket and head to the park for some great music!
