Here’s your chance to vote for Crow Wing County’s vegetable for 2020.
That’s right… you pick. Crow Wing Energized kicked off the One Vegetable, One Community campaign at the Crow Wing County Fair last week with The Great Veggie Debate. While I was not there to listen to the veggies “cuke it out,” I had my favorite in mind! Okay, maybe it was between two of the veggies…. or three…oh, I digress.
Residents can choose what vegetable they think our community should have as the 2020 Winner. On the ballot are Pepper, Carrot, Zucchini, String Bean and (the ever-controversial) Tomato. Ballots were given out at the fair and the votes started coming in. (Local celebrities were dressed as veggies and started “campaigning” for “themselves” trying to get themselves – as the veggie – voted as best.) Truth be told, the goal is to see the vegetable of the year growing in more kitchen gardens, community and school gardens or on front porch containers. It’s meant to start the conversation about food, nutrition and how the county can support our healthier options as we humans are not eating enough vegetables. You can check out Crow Wing Energized on Facebook and link from there to cast your vote or listen to today’s (8/8/19) Community Focus (with our guests from the YMCA and CW Energized) on our website to find other locations where you can cast your vote. As you can see, I picked a peck of pickled pepp… oops. there I go again. Sorry. I picked the pepper. Which will you choose?
